DC Fire and EMS personnel were called to a worksite at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Monday, April 24, where there was a report of a worker who suffered a medical emergency and needed to be extricated away in the 600 block of Howard Road SE.
Approximately 30 minutes later, a forest responder was able to gain access to the construction worker during a “below grade” rescue.
In video shared by the agency, the worker can be seen being hoisted by medical personnel to the surface in a rescue basket that was lifted by a crane.
During the rescue, officials said that the construction worker was alert and conscious before being transported to an area hospital for treatment and evaluation of undisclosed injuries.
